Ayup! Welcome out on another explore. I am back with Phil and Vinny, and we are in the Derbyshire town of New Mills. Once a tiny hamlet called Bowden Middlecale, New Mills exploded into an industrial Mecca after the discovery of coal in the valley. Industrialists flocked to the area to take advantage of the coal, and also of the water power harnessed in the 'Torr gorge'. The natural gorge sits deep below New Mills, and is where the River Sett and River Goyt meet. At one point in the mid 1800s there were 15 different mills using the power of the rivers to power them. We are going to walk the 'Millennium walkway' to see what remains we can find from this magnificent era.
