The Further Precepts | Sunday Dharma Talk with Jokai Blackwell | June 14, 2026

Insight Community of the Desert (ICD) Guiding Council Teacher Jokai Blackwell shares a dharma talk with the ICD sangha about the "further precepts". The precepts are the Buddha's invitation to a way of living that supports our own peace, and is an offering of care and safety to our world. They can sound like a list of rules — don't harm, don't take what isn't given, don't lie, be wise in our sexuality, don't cloud the mind with intoxicants. Yet, the precepts aren't rules, they're alive, intentional trainings (and no one is keeping score). Taken together they are the practice of Sila (living in integrity), and the foundation of the entire path. Insight Community of the Desert is completely supported by donations.
