Odissey: Ulisse, le Sirene e i giganti Lestrigoni tra mito e alieni

Like many of you, I recently watched Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Regardless of my opinions on the film, it inspired me to reread one of the greatest tales of antiquity from a completely different perspective. In this video, I analyze some of the most enigmatic encounters recounted by Homer: the gigantic and ferocious Laestrygonians, the Cyclopes, the Sirens, and the mysterious creatures encountered by Odysseus during his journey. Are these merely mythological characters, or could these tales preserve the memory, distorted by time, of real encounters with non-human beings? In this episode, I compare the Homeric text with modern accounts and ancient traditions about marine creatures, all elements of research I collected in my latest book, Aliens from the Deep. From this comparison, a possible UFO and Fortean interpretation of the Odyssey emerges: not simply a work of fantasy, but perhaps the memory of a journey through anomalous places, non-human populations, and phenomena that still elude a definitive explanation.
