Excursion of May 31, 2025 Leaving the cars near the Rifugio I Re Magi (parking), above Bardonecchia (TO), we set off along the dirt road that leads to Piano della Fonderia. From there, following the sign, we continue along the path to Monte Thabor. In the initial part, the route develops in a decidedly summery environment: green meadows, waterfalls and swollen and impetuous streams, given the considerable amount of rain that has fallen in recent times. As we climb, we enter a context with a winter flavor: white reigns supreme and the snow cover, against all expectations, is of a load-bearing consistency, so much so that we will do the entire climb with snowshoes attached to the backpack. Amazement and wonder overtake us when we reach the summit: a fantastic landscape and exceptional views repay us for all the effort made to climb. We had long promised ourselves that we would return to Mount Thabor to see it in winter (after our first ascent in late summer/early autumn). The beauty with which we were greeted far exceeded all expectations! A tiring excursion due to the difference in altitude and the slope, but technically feasible without special equipment or skills.
