The original complex of the best natural bodybuilder in history – Eugen Sandow! Eugene Sandow's physical development system was very popular at the beginning of the last century. Sandow himself was a superb athlete, considered by many to be the strongest man in the world. Here are some of his athletic feats: a platform was lowered onto Sandow's chest, holding three horses or a grand piano and an eight-piece orchestra. The athlete performed a backflip with a 1.5-pound weight in each hand and landed precisely on the same spot – a handkerchief. Resting his heels on one chair and the back of his head on another, Sandow supported two men on his chest and a 22-kilogram kettlebell in his outstretched arm. He pressed a barbell with one arm, containing huge hollow balls containing a man (total weight – 7 good 13 pounds) – a world record at the time, later broken by the famous Georg Hackenschmidt. In 1895, Sandow lifted a 115-kilogram barbell and, shifting it to his left hand, lay down on his back and stood up again (Turkish get-up). Contemporaries considered Sandow the founder of bodybuilding. It was he who organized the first athletic beauty contest in England in 1901, which attracted 156 participants, most of whom trained according to Sandow's system. Sandow was not naturally endowed with the Herculean physique typical of strongmen of the time. Only through systematic and deliberate weight training did he achieve his remarkable physical development. His anthropometric measurements were: height - 170 cm, weight - 88 kg, chest circumference when inhaling - 122 cm, waist - 80 cm, biceps - 43 cm, thigh - 63 cm, calf - 40 cm, forearm - 33 cm (Hercules magazine, No. 10, 1913). Using his medical knowledge and experience training under the guidance of trainer Attila, Sandow developed a system of dumbbell exercises and recommended it not only for men but also for children and girls, for whom a special dosage of exercises was prescribed. We will begin our introduction to this system with the author's brief recommendations. The body, like a child, needs training; such training can only be achieved through exercises that not only develop muscles but also improve health. Exercises should be performed no sooner than two hours after eating. Practice in front of a mirror, paying attention to proper, calm movements. Each exercise should take 2 seconds. Don't forcefully increase the dumbbell weight or the number of repetitions. After exercises, take a cold bath, having prepared your body for the water treatments. Start in the summer and continue year-round, every morning. If a bath is not possible, after exercises, dry your body with a towel soaked in cold water, then quickly dry with a towel.
