10mm vs 45 ACP: The Biggest Lie in the Gun Industry (Part 2)

10mm vs 45 ACP: The Biggest Lie in the Gun Industry Pick up a box of factory 10mm from the shelf. Read the back. It says 180 grains at 1,150 fps. Chronograph it. You'll get 950. Maybe 980. The box says 10mm. The chronograph says 40 S&W. Jeff Cooper's original spec was 200 grains at 1,000 fps. Norma loaded it to 1,200 without asking. The FBI downloaded it to 950. Smith & Wesson shortened the case and called it the 40 S&W. The USCCA wall penetration study found the 10mm goes through over 10 walls of sheetrock. The 45 ACP goes through 6. The 45 recoils the same from range ammo to carry ammo. The 10mm feels like two different guns depending on what you loaded. Every number is verified.
