Howard Koenig
Howard Koenig was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1944. After finishing high school in Berwyn, Illinois in 1962, he enlisted in the Navy. He trained as an electrician, with a specialization in repair and maintenance of radar systems. He was assigned to the destroyer tender USS Sierra (AD-18), which also served as a headquarters ship for a destroyer flotilla, and worked on radar system on an assortment of ships. The Sierra cruised along the Atlantic coastline and into the Caribbean, including stops at Key West and Guantanamo Bay. He was discharged in 1968. (Note: Due to a balky electrical outlet, there are some jumps in the video where we had to stop and restart.)
