The attraction is based on Universal Pictures and Illumination’s animated film Despicable Me (2010) and its franchise, employing the use of 3D high-definition digital animation. While it is a launch attraction in Beijing, it replaced Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast (which itself replaced The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera) in Florida, T2-3D: Battle Across Time (which itself replaced An American Tail Theatre) in Hollywood, Back to the Future: The Ride in Japan and Madagascar: A Crate Adventure in Singapore.
