Sonder is the collaborative three-song EP from 24th and Haven (the project of musician Ryan Repash) and Sun Wash (the project of musician Jared Foldy). Created between Nashville and the outskirts of Philadelphia, the release somehow feels detached from any specific geography. It doesn’t sound rooted in a city, state, or scene so much as suspended outside of them altogether. The result is transcendent ambient music: minimal yet deeply layered, hushed yet lush. 24th and Haven, who has previously worked with Taylor Deupree and Alex Somers, is still a relatively new name in ambient music, having released his debut full-length album in 2024. Sun Wash, meanwhile, has quietly been building a catalog since 2019 without ever releasing a full-length record. Together, the two artists create a ten-minute sound bath that feels equally suited for waking up, falling asleep, or drifting somewhere in between. Sonder works as both active and passive listening. It’s music for meditation, breath work, reading, stretching, nature walks, or simply escaping the constant glow of a screen. There’s an unmistakably analog and organic quality to the recordings, as though the songs were carried through the woods and captured directly onto cassette tape. The textures are raw and imperfect in a way that only makes them feel more human and beautiful. Though rooted in ambient music, the mini-EP subtly incorporates electronic and neoclassical elements that ebb and flow throughout its runtime. The result is Sonder: ten cinematic and transcendent minutes.
