In this week's #OpiniãoNaCultura, we discuss suicide as a significant public health problem. According to the World Health Organization, more people currently die from suicide than from HIV, breast cancer, wars or homicides. It is a complex of characteristics that can affect men and women of different origins, cultures, social classes and ages. In Brazil, around 14 million people take their own lives each year, which is equivalent to an average of 38 cases per day. To discuss the causes, prevention and postvention, which involve caring for those bereaved by the suicide of someone close to them, we will talk to psychiatrist and researcher at the Ame Sua Mente Institute, Gustavo Estanislau, and psychologist and suicidologist Karina Okajima Fukumitsu.
