Modern English - Grief – Live in Oakland

Modern English - Grief – Oakland, Live, Sat. 5-14-16, Front row, Oakland Metro Operahouse. Playing the whole of 1981's Mesh & Lace for the first time! Other Tidbits: Performing all of the early singles and edgier/wilder songs from the start of the post-punk '80s. And all the original band members are back! Robbie Grey, Mick Conroy (bassist), Gary McDowell (guitarist), Stephen Walker (keyboards) and Roy Martin (drummer). The band is also in the middle of recording a new album that was crowd-funded by PledgeMusic. Robbie said that some of the new tracks are more aggressive, like the earlier 4AD material, but it also has some orchestration on it, so it's a mixture of multiple things. The night also included other post-punk bands, which set the stage very well. Fans even dressed up in 80s punk attire (mohawks, leather jackets, ripped clothing, etc.) to celebrate the fun occasion (which didn't end until ~1am!). Setlist: 1. Dance of Devotion (A Love Song) 2. Just a Thought 3. Swans on Glass 4. Black Houses 5. The Token Man 6. Grief 7. A Viable Commercial 8. Move in Light 9. Smiles & Laughter 10. 16 Days 11. Gathering Dust Encore: 12.
