The Truth About Rose Rust | Adapting To Fungal Disease In My David Austin Rose Garden 🌹

This year in the rose garden, I’ve had to adapt. With the combination of a wet spring, warm temperatures and an increasing number of roses in the Rose Room, fungal disease pressure has been significantly higher than usual — particularly rose rust. In this video, I wanted to be completely transparent about the steps I’ve taken to protect the garden, including my decision to use a targeted fungicidal spray on the roses. I still strongly believe in natural gardening principles, encouraging beneficial insects, improving airflow, selective defoliation and building resilient soil health — and I truly believe those practices prevented things from becoming far worse. However, sometimes adaptation becomes necessary, especially when growing a large collection of roses closely together. We’ll talk about: 🌹 Rose rust and fungal disease 🌹 Why this year has been particularly difficult 🌹 Defoliation and disease management 🌹 Fungicide rotation and resistance prevention 🌹 Why many professional rose growers also spray preventatively 🌹 Balancing natural gardening with practical intervention Gardening constantly teaches us to adapt, learn and respond to the seasons we’re given — and I hope this honest discussion helps anyone else currently struggling with fungal disease in their own garden.
