Fury of the Slavs [Old East Slavic/Old Norse Song] | The Skaldic Bard, Farya Faraji & July Vitraniuk

Here's another song from my and ‪@faryafaraji.and.worldmusicians‬'s The Varangian's Saga: Fury of the Slavs (with some slight remixing of Farya's arrangement by me in this video). Old East Slavic and Old Norse lyrics by me, performance by myself and the excellent ‪@julyvitraniuk‬. The song consists primarily of the tune of two traditional Belarusian folk melodies (with new lyrics written by myself in Old East Slavic and wonderful musical embellishments by Farya): 1) Jure, ustavai rana, and 2) Što j pa moru. July marvelously accompanies the music with her traditional White Voice singing style which is so evocative of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. I strove to ensure that the Old East Slavic pronunciation was as authentic as possible for the 11th century. The "jers" (the small sounds represented by ъ and ь) are variably sounded shorter or longer depending on the cadence/syllable count of the line (consistently with the style of Slavic poets of old), but never stressed. Sadly, the Slavic nasal vowels had fallen out of use in OES, so ѫ and ѧ, though used etymologically consistently, are sounded as modern у and я respectively. е is also not sounded with the palatal glide, as it is thought that this development occurred at a later stage.
