"In our helplessness, you were our hope." Five years after the devastating floods of 2021, Markus Wipperfürth recalls the days when farmers, agricultural contractors, and volunteers interrupted their work at home and drove their machinery to the affected regions. In this personal account, Markus recounts how he first witnessed the destruction in the Ahr Valley, why it was immediately clear that experienced professionals and heavy equipment were needed, and how spontaneous appeals for help gave rise to an extraordinary relief effort. Farmers arrived with tractors, wheel loaders, excavators, and trailers. Rural women provided the volunteers with food. Tire service companies, hydraulic companies, agricultural machinery dealers, construction firms, landscapers, and countless volunteers worked together to clear roads, houses, and properties of mud and debris. Many abandoned their own work in the middle of harvest season to do so. Markus Wipperfürth looks back on this community with gratitude and pride: "Even though we'd never met before, we immediately sensed: You don't need to tell him anything.
