In 1995 I was producing a series, Formative Influences, for BBC Radio 4. Earlier that year I had been asked to produce a one-off ‘Down Your Way’ from the BBC Clothes Show. I chose Wayne Hemingway, who created the fashion chain Red Or Dead, to present it. He proved to be a natural, so much so that when I was confronted with selecting famous personalities for this new series I turned to Wayne. Wayne wasn’t that passionate about soccer, yet for his formative influencer he chose George. The result gave me an experience that I’ll never forget.
