Renowned Irish rebel/folk balladeer Willie Lynch Band performs poignant traditional Irish folk ballad "Spancil Hill" composed by Michael Considine (1850–1873) who migrated to Boston before moving west to follow the Gold Rush in California. "Spancil Hill" was written about an Irishman longing for his home in Spancil Hill, County Clare; his friends; and his love he left behind. The tune bemoans the plight of the Irish immigrants who longed for home from their new lives in America, many of whom went to California with the Gold Rush. All the characters and places in this song are real. Numerous acts have paid tribute with their own renditions of "Spancil Hill," including The Corrs, Cruachan, The Dropkick Murphys, The Dubliners, Mary Duff, Geasa, The High Kings, Jim McCann, Christy Moore, The Prodigals, Paddy Reilly and The Wolfe Tones.
