Griffos Outback Adventure Part 4 Ularring District - "Micks Patch" Sat 4th - Mon 6th April

What a trip back to the patch. Had a hunch about the diagonal shear through all 3 fault lines so we decided to go north of the main patch and test the theory. Went up Sunday 29th, set up camp and then started detecting Monday. The flies were fierce!! Day 1 (Monday) we found a few small pieces so started gridding out. Day 2 (Tuesday) we had 2.5 grams - okay but not paying the fuel. We continued gridding on Wednesday (Day 3) and then........ Jas hits the most concentrated patch of gold we've got on to date. Literally digging 3 targets out of one hole and whilst moving the detector out the way picking up another 5! Meanwhile I was running the grid out to try and delineate the patch. I had a screamer that sounded like surface trash, gave it a small boot scrape and a 1.5-2g nugget slid out. I'm like there's no f-cking way that's gold - picked it up - yep a big flat slug of gold, barely under the surface!! Jas had gold fatigue and was whinging about the amount of admin he had to do😁(it's part of my agreement with the Mining Co). I went over the patch with the 11" Mono coil and my 14 and pulled another 6 grams out. We figure there once was a quartz reef there that has eroded over the millions of years and the gold has dropped out as it was super prickly - straight from the vein, definitely hasn't travelled. The resident bull showed up Thurs morning for a stare down, Jas sent the drone out as he proceeded to venture over to our camp. Over the next 2.5 days (Thurs - Fri) we pulled 85 grams out (about 140 nuggets) - yep about $18-19k of gold pending the daily market price!!! Good Friday was a great Friday - treated to a magnificent sunset that lulled us into a false sense of security for the predicted thunderstorm scheduled to come in!!. Then it came, the lightning and thunder show - Jas "what's that noise" - that's the wind mate - you can hear it coming from miles and then bang game on!! Destructive winds, hail you name we had it. Jas lost his brand new marquee and mine was f-cked too! Amazing what a few beers and a pocket full of gold does to lighten the situation. Next morning we McGuyvered that shit back together again but the gold gods said we'd had enough with thunderstorms on and off through Saturday and only another small 0.17g on Easter Sunday. Sunday we took some of Dads ashes out (he comes out to most of our trips) to the willow tree near the patch, Jas carved a cross in the tree, buried a bit of him there and dubbed the patch Micks Patch. Sunday we packed down, had "several" beers, watched the Rugby then went to drive up the track in to park closer to the exit for a sleep and early start. Well the main road was closed the day earlier but reopened so it never dawned on us our track would be f-cked! I got bogged, Jas recovered me, Jas nearly gets bogged but managed to reverse out. So we decided to go out the back way to North Coolgardie Rd and when we find somewhere to pull over we'll stop and sleep. This is around 11pm by now, no where to stop until about 5k's out from Coolgardie!! 2am Monday we find a parking spot, sleep for 3 hours then all the mining LV's are hustling past so up we get and head home on the 7 hour drive!! A trip that will go down in history not only for the gold (151 nuggs in total) but for the straight out laughs we had out there!! Priceless
