Crazy Travel Day! 🤪 Kathmandu to Pokhara Bus Ride 🚌 Nepal Road Trip 🚦 Delays, Smog, Dust & Chaos! 🇳🇵

Join us as we take a bus ride in Nepal going from Kathmandu to Pokhara on a full day of travel using Pokhara Jagadamba Travels Bus service. We decided to pay a bit more (about $20 USD) for a bus that offered extra comfortable seats, air conditioning, meal service (breakfast and buffet lunch), and a hostess that brought us tea and snacks as opposed to more budget options that exist for fraction of that price. We figured since we knew it would be a bumpy and dusty trip we'd rather splurge a little and it was well worth it in our opinion. Upon arriving in Pokhara, after we give you guys a little room tour of our hotel, we find a nice restaurant to enjoy some pizza and Indian food before grabbing wine and calling it a day with a glass of wine. 🚌 Epic Travel Day: Kathmandu to Pokhara by Bus | Nepal Road Trip, Food, & First Impressions! 🇳🇵 🌄 Early Start in Kathmandu: Smog, Dust & Chaos The day begins with a classic chaotic travel vibe in Kathmandu. It’s early morning—7:15 am—and the city is shrouded in thick, polluted smog, making the air almost “textured.” The travelers arrive well before their bus’s 8:00 am departure, anxiously waiting on the side of a busy, noisy road and hoping they’re in the right spot. Despite the challenging air quality and constant honking, spirits remain high as they look forward to leaving Kathmandu for the scenic, lakeside city of Pokhara. 🚌 Bus Boarding & First Impressions After fending off persistent minibus drivers, the correct bus finally arrives around 8:15 am. The journey kicks off with a bumpy ride out of Kathmandu, soundtracked by the comical “turkey gobble” horns of Nepali buses. Breakfast is served on board—noodles and potatoes—providing much-needed energy for the road ahead. 🍛 Roadside Lunch: Buffet with a View Three and a half hours into the ride, a lunch stop arrives just past noon. The travelers enjoy a buffet featuring noodles, Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes), rice with bean curry (Dal), and a yogurt or rice pudding dessert. Cautious of the winding, serpentine roads, they keep portions light to avoid any post-lunch travel woes. The quality of the road and traffic noticeably improves as they get further from Kathmandu. 🚩 Arrival in Pokhara: Fresh Air, Room Tour & Relief After an 8-hour journey, Pokhara finally comes into view. Dusty but excited, the group checks into their hotel, conducts the world’s quickest “Pokhara Cribs” room tour, and immediately prioritizes food above all else. 🍕🍷 First Meal in Pokhara: Comfort Food & Toasts The group seeks comfort food for their first meal—paneer with tikka spices cooked in a tandoori oven, a massive veggie-loaded pizza, salad, and naan. Drinks include mint lemonade, Everest Beer (“Nepal, the land of mysticism and Himalayan grandeur”), and Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon (a splurge at $11, but worth celebrating the journey). The food is excellent, and the portions are generous—just what’s needed after a long, bumpy ride. 🥂 Cheers to Pokhara: The Adventure Begins After a delicious meal and some local wine, the group celebrates simply arriving in Pokhara, ready for the adventures ahead. Plans include food vlogs, sightseeing, and perhaps a bit of hiking. Spirits are high and the promise of fresh mountain air is a welcome reward after a dusty travel day.
