Pope Leo Celebrates Feast of Saints Peter and Paul with Special Mass | EWTN News Nightly

Pope Leo XIV celebrated the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul with a special Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. As part of the annual tradition, the Holy Father blessed the pallia, woolen vestments of newly appointed metropolitan archbishops. Pope Leo XIV revived the tradition begun by St. John Paul II in 1983 by personally placing the pallium around the shoulders of newly named archbishops. The ceremony on June 29 recalls the centuries-old tradition of the imposition of the pallia, but above all it is a sign of the unbreakable bond between the new metropolitans and the successor of Saint Peter, the heart of the Church.
