Serenading, House to House ~ Canouan Style

As we close the curtains on 2022 lets do a little ThrowBack.... FACT TRACK We are a people embedded within our Cultural practices that was handed down from our foreparents. House to house, serenading, with the Sandy's Band on Christmas Day is a tradition in Canouan. This tradition has been around for almost 100 years. Back then, Canouan had no electricity but this did not deter the band from making the rounds to the various houses throughout the island. The House to House used to begin after the Midnight service on Christmas Morning and continue everyday until every house was visited. Fast forward now, many generations later this tradition of House to House serenading still continues, it has since then evolved with Canouan now having electricity, amplified music is used and the event happens in the day into the night but one thing's for sure, the sweetness within the music remains, some may even say got even sweeter.
