Tyr – Warum gab er seine Hand für den Eid?

Tyr, altnordisch Týr, gehört zu den ältesten und zugleich rätselhaftesten Göttern der germanisch-nordischen Mythologie. Er steht für Mut, Recht, Eid, Kampf und Opferbereitschaft. Seine bekannteste Geschichte erzählt, wie er seine Hand in den Rachen des Fenriswolfs legt, damit die Götter Fenrir mit Gleipnir binden können. Tyr verliert die Hand – doch gerade dadurch wird er zum Sinnbild für Pflicht, Treue und ein Recht, das auch dann Bestand hat, wenn es einen hohen Preis fordert. Tyr, Old Norse Týr, is one of the oldest and most enigmatic gods of Germanic and Norse mythology. He stands for courage, law, oath, battle, and sacrifice. His best-known story tells how he places his hand into the jaws of the wolf Fenrir so the gods can bind Fenrir with Gleipnir.
