Reforma protestante y libertad individual | César Vidal
César Vidal, a scholar of Protestantism and defender of freedom, presents the history of the Reformation movement initiated by the friar Martin Luther, who fell out with the Catholic Church over the loss of values and the abandonment of the ancient structures on which it had been founded. The Protestant Reformation brought with it freedoms not granted by Catholicism, which continued to impose medieval traditions to gain salvation. "The Protestant Reformation had a breath of freedom from the beginning in its theological formulations and in the impact it would have on society." The triumph of Protestantism, comments César Vidal, arose with the recognition of the right to religious freedom, which began with the Peace of Augsburg and later with the Peace of Westphalia. Another important contribution that César Vidal mentions about the Reformation was the fight it waged against ignorance, creating schools and founding universities that opened their doors to all talented people of any social class. But the Scientific Revolution also emerged from the Reformation, where great figures of Protestantism stood out, such as Francis Bacon, Hans Lippershey, Zacharias Janssen, Johannes Kepler, Robert Boyle, Isaac Barrow, Isaac Newton, Carl Linnaeus, and others. Another of the concepts recovered by the Reformation, César Vidal asserts, was freedom from poverty, with a very different view of work, which had previously been conceived as a punishment from God, the Catholic Church's negative conception of financial culture, and freedom from despotism through the establishment of the supremacy of law and the separation of powers. "...Because if someone concentrates the three powers: the legislative, the executive, and the judicial in a single set of hands, what we end up with is tyranny."
