In 1962, he came so close. He fought Buddy Rogers for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in Newark, New Jersey. More than 6,000 fans watched. Rogers said he hurt his groin during the match. Bobo won by count-out. The referee handed him the title. But Bobo said no. He wanted to win the belt the right way. He wanted a pinfall or a submission. So he refused the crown that was sitting right there in his hands.
