The tuning is standard tuning E A D G B E. The intro is one of the hardest parts of the song to get right. John Frusciante incorporates some difficult unison bends while also holding down a double-stop. The main riff, which is the verse of the song, consists of a single note riff that has some tricky rhythms in it. You will also need to be pretty good at muting unwanted strings on the guitar, as Frusciante uses lots of muting throughout the riff. The muting helps make the single notes sound big and fat, a signature technique of his. The chorus is a riff that will vary throughout the song, so play close attention to the difference between them. For the solos, since they are created using a backwards guitar recording effect in the studio, I have instead demonstrated the three scale types you can use to create an improvised solo. These are the same scales Frusciante used for his solos.
