16.04.2010 Corby Council vs Corby on Look East

After more than a decade Corby Borough Coucil final apologise and promise compensation to its victims. We already knew that toxic dust caused birth defects in 19 children. A landmark High Court ruling last year concluded that Corby Council's clear-up of the town's old steel works had been negligent. Dust in the air was inhaled by pregnant women. This was the first time that a court has said there is a link between toxic dust and birth defects and it was the largest child poissoning case since Thalidomide. But smarmy Chris Mallender, Chief Executive of Corby Borough Council, continues to dispute that there was such widespread negligence and thinks that the judgement went too far. He still thinks the Council were not guilty of mismanagement of the reclaimation programme so they were not responsible.
