7 Tage in der Eiszeit – Tag 2: Wohnten Menschen wirklich in Höhlen?
On day two, I follow the group through the cold landscape of the Swabian Alps. Everything they need has to be carried. There are no paths or maps, so the people navigate by valleys, rocks, and other features of the terrain. Finally, we reach a cave. But it quickly becomes clear that it isn't a fully furnished home. The group stays near the bright entrance, leaves their equipment there, and uses the sheltered area to work. The cave floor later bears traces of such stays: ash, stone flakes, organic finds, and various deposits. I also get to participate in the group's work for the first time. A little later, two group members discover footprints in the ground that mark the route for day three. Day two of the seven-part series "7 Days in the Ice Age."
