Survival School #1: Stay Warm with NO Backpack --- Ultralight Cold Weather Clothing System

Welcome to Survival School — a free online series where I teach practical, field‑tested survival skills based on real New England conditions. In Class #1, we cover an ultralight cold‑weather clothing system designed for situations where you don’t have a backpack and must rely entirely on what you’re wearing. This system is built around simple, affordable, and effective gear: • USGI jacket liner (M65 style) Used as an ultralight insulating layer. I show how to wear it under a tactical shirt for maximum warmth with minimal bulk. • Propper BDU‑style shirt A durable outer layer that works with the liner to trap heat while staying breathable. • Poncho as a wind‑blocking jacket I show how to belt the poncho to stop it from flapping in high winds and turn it into a functional 3/4‑sleeve jacket. • Improvised carry options If the liner gets too warm, I show how to roll it up and use a strap as a shoulder sling. The liner can also be used to carry scavenged food or other items. • Essential accessories Gloves, a bandana or scarf, and a detachable hood make a huge difference in cold‑weather survival. This class is copyrighted, but made available on YouTube for free as part of this ongoing Survival School series.
