Inside Missouri State Penitentiary: Death Row, the dungeons, Gas Chamber & the Bloodiest 47 Acres
Step inside the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, Missouri — once known as “the Bloodiest 47 Acres in America.” This historic prison operated for 168 years, from 1836 until its decommissioning in 2004, and remains one of the most haunting and fascinating landmarks in Missouri history. In this video, we explore the story of the Missouri State Penitentiary, also known as MSP, including its old cell blocks, prison yard, infamous inmates, death row history, and the gas chamber where executions were carried out. Once the oldest continually operating prison west of the Mississippi River, MSP housed thousands of inmates over the decades and became known for violence, escapes, riots, and stories that still linger behind the walls. Located in downtown Jefferson City, Missouri, the prison is now open for history tours, ghost tours, and paranormal investigations. Visitors can walk through historic housing units, the upper courtyard, and the gas chamber while learning about one of the most notorious prisons in American history. If you enjoy abandoned places, haunted history, true crime, Missouri history, old prisons, and forgotten American landmarks, this video is for you. Featured topics include: Missouri State Penitentiary history, Jefferson City prison, MSP tour, the Bloodiest 47 Acres in America, death row, gas chamber, prison riots, famous inmates, historic Missouri landmarks, abandoned prison exploration, and haunted Missouri locations. Subscribe for more cinematic stories from forgotten places, historic sites, roadside Americana, classic machines, and the backroads where history still has something to say. Every road has a story. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with, sponsored by, or associated with the Missouri State Penitentiary in any way. This video was created independently out of my interest in the history of MSP and the stories connected to it. If this video sparks your curiosity, I highly encourage you to take one of the official Missouri State Penitentiary tours. Several different tours are available, including history tours, ghost/paranormal tours, and opportunities to visit areas such as the historic Warden’s Residence. It is a fascinating place to experience in person, and the official tours are a great way to learn more about its history. #MissouriStatePenitentiary #MissouriHistory #AbandonedPrison #JeffersonCity #TrueCrimeHistory
