El Ejército de Honduras toma el control de las cárceles al estilo Bukele en El Salvador

The operation by the Military Police of Public Order (PMOP) in Honduran prisons, which began Monday, is being carried out with respect for the human rights of inmates, said Colonel Fernando Muñoz, director of the institution, on Tuesday. Regarding opinions from some sectors, including human rights defenders, that the operation in the prisons is violating the rights of prisoners and that the operation is a copy of what is being done in El Salvador with imprisoned gang members, Muñoz stated that everything is being done according to "normal procedures." He added that in the operation known as "Faith and Hope," no comparisons can be made with the measures applied in El Salvador and asked human rights defenders to "let the PMOP do its work." According to Muñoz, this Tuesday the operation continued with the first three prisons where the operation began on Monday: the National Penitentiary, the Women's Social Adaptation Center, where 46 women were murdered on the 20th, both near Tegucigalpa, and the Morocelí prison in the eastern part of the country. "Let human rights defenders do what they have to do, that's what they're paid for, but let us work," the military officer emphasized. He also indicated that the PMOP, in compliance with instructions from Honduran President Xiomara Castro, will regain control of the 25 prisons that make up the country's penitentiary system, several of which have been controlled for many years by criminal gangs known as "maras." Muñoz said he cannot specify how long the prisons will be under control and that while the "maras" are operating in them, even the gang members themselves will be in danger. He also noted that there are antennas and other communication systems in the vicinity of the three prisons that were demolished, which will be dismantled unless the companies that installed them do so.
