A Principal’s Perspective from the Field | SPARK Voices

Across Meghalaya, SPARK (School Programmes in Articulation, Resilience and Kindness) continues to strengthen learning environments in government and government-aided schools through a focus on confidence, communication, social-emotional learning, and inclusive classroom practices. Recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as one of the country’s national best practices under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, SPARK reflects Meghalaya’s commitment to ensuring that every child feels confident, supported, and capable of learning with joy. In this interview, S. K. Tiwary, Principal of Jirang Government Higher Secondary School, Ri Bhoi District, shares his experience of hosting SPARK in his campus and witnessing its impact on students. From building confidence in speaking to strengthening resilience, curiosity, and peer support inside the classroom, he highlights how SPARK has helped create a safer and more inclusive learning space for his students, one that aligns with the broader goals of equity, wellbeing, and holistic development emphasised in NEP 2020.
