Trio Da Kali - Kenebo - LIVE at Afrikafestival Hertme 2017
Performance 2 July 2017 Trio Da Kali shows that the Mandé griot culture of southern Mali is alive. The three are representatives of the next generation of this ancient tradition of hereditary musical craftsmen, storytellers, newsgivers and history conservationists. The trio's sublime soul voice is that of Hawa Kassé Mady, daughter of Malay musical grandmother Kassé Mady Diabaté (AF Hertme in 2015), the deep funky sounds of Africa's oldest string instrument come from Mamadou Kouyaté bass ngoni, Son of world-famous ngoni master Bassekou Kouyaté (at AF Hertme in 2007 and 2013). The trio is led by Mali's main balafon player, Lassana Diabaté. The trio was originally compiled for a one-off co-operation project with Kronos Quartet. It decided to go on its own, and it was now in some of the world's most prestigious halls. It is classic traditional music soaked in history with contemporary vitality and virtuosity.
