Why did Jesus come to earth at the point in time that he did? The 4th Century Christian scholar Arnobius of Sicca defended Christianity against pagan critics who questioned why Jesus came so late if his birth was necessary for the salvation of mankind. Arnobius was the author of 'Adversus Gentes' a polemic against Roman paganism. In his book, he attacks many pagan beliefs while defending Christianity.
