Derya Artemel… a woman who carries within her both the wind of Izmir and the fire of theater… she doesn't act a role, she lives it; she doesn't take on a character, she becomes the heart of that character. This is a journey from the depths of theater to the bright lights of television. We met her with "Zerda," we were captivated by "Sahar Zaman" (Seher Zaman), and we couldn't forget her with "Kırgın Çiçek" (Broken Flowers). Behind that mother who said, "My Kemal won't do it," there was a whole other heart. With every performance, she brought a piece of our inner world to the stage. She captivated not only with her beauty but also with the depth of her acting. Because Derya Artemel has become one of the quietest but brightest stars of Turkish theater and television. In every role, she became a little braver, a little more real, a little more "feminine"... her light never dimmed, it just changed direction... and that light continues to shine in every scene, with every line. She grew up in the Karşıyaka district of Izmir. After attending Gazi Anatolian High School, she completed her education in the theater department at Dokuz Eylül University. During her university years, she acted in amateur theater groups both within the school and outside of it. After graduating, she moved to Istanbul. Her first role after moving to Istanbul was in 2002, as "Sila"[1] in the TV series Zerda. Artemel was one of the actors in the TV series "Zerda" injured in a traffic accident in Gaziantep. Barış Çakmak suffered a broken leg and a head wound. Derya Artemel and Hülya Şen Küçükkaymaz suffered a hip dislocation and contusions and trauma injuries from the impact. Following this, she appeared in some episodes of the series Aliye and in the 2005 series Seher Zamanları (Sea Time) as "Devil's Wife, Müjde." A review in Radikal noted that she "shined" in this role.[2] She played the character of Servant in the series Aşk ve Mavi. In 2013, she played the lead character inspired by Medea in Oyun Atölyesi's play "Araf." In 2014, she appeared in Tiyatro Seyirlik's play "Öteki" and Tiyatrokare's play "Zübük."[3][4] Gülnaz Bıçakçı, writing in Totem magazine, evaluated Artemel's performance in "Araf" by saying, "Derya Artemel, who plays the woman, beautifully reflects the psychology of Medea, or the woman herself. It seems she has conducted a meticulous psychological study. She successfully portrays her sometimes mad feelings, her tension, and her grief for her children on stage."[5] In 2019, she performed in Mam'art Theatre's play "Empatopia." Writing in a theater magazine, Pınar Erol described her performance as "immediately empathizing with the play's ever-smiling, insightful, and wise characters. We are immediately captivated by them. That smile rubs off on us. Derya Artemel's facial expressions, seemingly fixed on her face and possessing her muscles, are particularly effective in this."[6] In 2019, she directed the play "Masanın Altın" (Under the Table) at Bizim Tiyatro and portrayed Florence. Ismail Cem Özkan, writing in Açık Gazete, described Artemel's performance as "having internalized the play, fulfilling the requirements of her role, and contributing to her colleagues' performance throughout the play." Throughout her career, she has appeared in productions such as Zerda, Organized Works, Seher Zaman, Aliye, Yolcu Arkadaşı (My Travel Companion), Unending Song, Kırgın Çiçek (Kırgın Çiçek), Aşk ve Mavi (Love and Blue), Çocuklık (Childhood), Blackboard (Black Board), and Kendi Düş Ağmaz (Don't Cry). Her portrayal of Mesude in Kırgın Çiçek (Kırgın Çiçek) was a much-discussed role at the time. The line "Kemal won't do it" has become a household name. Derya Artemel and Cansu Fırıncı, who play the husband and wife in ATV's record-breaking series "Kırgın Çiçekler," say they faced backlash from the public for their roles.
