Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Birmingham is Alabama's largest city and also busiest in terms of rail traffic. Various different lines from three class one railroads - CSX, NS, and BNSF - pass through the city, generating plenty of through-traffic. But the city boasts countless industries of its own, with steel making as its principle industry. This video focuses on the busiest section of track that runs right through downtown, carrying a substantial portion of NS and CSX traffic, as well as two daily Amtrak services, through the city.
