ROMA - Basilica di sant'Agostino

The Basilica of Sant'Agostino in Rome is one of the first Roman churches built during the Renaissance and is home to the Madonna of Loreto, also known as the Madonna of the Pilgrims, one of the most famous masterpieces by Caravaggio, who donated the work to the church in gratitude for the asylum granted. In addition to this famous canvas, the church houses a work by Guercino depicting Saints Augustine, John the Baptist, and Paul the Hermit, Raphael's famous fresco of the Prophet Isaiah, the statue of the Madonna and Child by Andrea Sansovino, and, on the counterfaçade, the Madonna del Parto by Jacopo Sansovino, which, according to popular tradition, is miraculous.
