Both possess a jewel, a Miraculous, that connects them to their magical creature (Kwamis) and grants them powers. Their mission is to prevent Hawk Moth—who wants to steal their Miraculouses—from wreaking havoc on the city by creating dangerous supervillains—all while living their student lives and keeping their identity a secret. Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Ladybug) - She studies at Françoise-Dupont College; she has great artistic talent and dreams of becoming a fashion designer. She is a sweet and cheerful girl, but quite clumsy and shy, especially when she gets close to Adrien, her classmate, as she often ends up stuttering around him. She also has a strong fondness for hamsters, according to the episode "Stormy Weather" (Stormy Weather in English-speaking countries, Climatika in French-speaking countries, and Tempestuosa in Portugal). Her best friend is Alya, who often tries to help her get Adrien's attention. Marinette can transform into Ladybug through her Miraculous, which are her earrings activated (miracle stones) with the energy of Tikki, her Kwami. Her weapon is a yo-yo that helps her move through buildings, pick up objects and people, and purify the butterflies (akuma) imbued with evil by Hawk Moth. Her main power is the Talisman (or Lucky Charm), which creates a random object to help her defeat supervillains contaminated by an akuma and uses this object with her Lucky Vision. Adrien Agreste (Cat Noir / Chat Noir / Gato Noir) - He is Marinette's classmate and works as a youth model for his father's clothing company. Being a very handsome and famous boy, he has numerous fans in Paris, including Marinette, Chloé, and the newcomer Lila, introduced in the last episode of season 1 (Volpina) (she was one of the most powerful akumatized people to date). Always kind and calm, Adrien doesn't pay much attention to girls, as he is in love with Ladybug, unaware that she is his classmate, Marinette. His best friend is Nino, but Adrien:: feels lonely most of the time, as he rarely sees his father at home. He is able to transform into Cat Noir through his Miraculous, which is his ring activated with the energy of Plagg, his Kwami. His weapon is an indestructible metal rod, capable of stretching and shrinking in size.
