Fun Facts About the "Yellow Tanager" | Learn Interesting Facts About the Bird! The yellow tanager is a very elegant bird and admired by all of us. One of the things that most impresses us about this bird is the beauty of its plumage. It features beautiful, striking colors, especially the males, which have more intense plumage. Like tanagers, the yellow tanager is a bird that also often visits homes with yards and gardens, especially those with fruit trees. Here, you can see the species moving among the tree branches in search of fruit and sometimes singing. The yellow tanager's song is very interesting; it is basically a sequence of rapid notes that emitted as it sings, quite pleasant to hear. The yellow tanager is also known by other names, such as "tanager," "cayana tanager," "green-winged tanager," "caiana pipira," "guriatã do coqueiro," "cacocla tanager," "yellow tanager," "iris tanager," and, incredibly, "horse-melado." Its scientific name is Stilpnia cayana. However, it is called "Burnished-buff Tanager" in English. Therefore, the yellow tanager is a passerine bird belonging to the Thraupidae family. And the most important thing to identify the yellow tanager is that the males' plumage is a beautiful shade of golden yellow, continuing with their beautiful and unmistakable black mask, which extends across the throat and down the middle of the belly. The wings and tail, however, have a beautiful greenish coloration. It is worth noting that in some subspecies, the males lack the black mask, that is, they only have a darker patch around their eyes. Females have duller plumage and are not as bright as the males. But it's not without its beauty. Both males and females have dark eyes, and their beaks, legs, and feet are a dark shade of gray. The yellow-rumped tanager occurs throughout almost all of Brazil, its preferred natural habitat. These include open forests, riparian forests, buriti palm groves, fields, cultivated areas, backyards, parks, orchards, and gardens. They are always found in pairs or in small groups associated with mixed-species flocks. Among the yellow-rumped tanager's favorite food sources is a bird with a strong affinity for fruit, which is why they are constantly moving through the trees in search of ripe fruit. Although they also feed on insects such as termites and wasps, they sometimes frequent fruit feeders. During the breeding season, the nest is built with leaves, roots, and grass in an open cup shape, in trees or shrubs. Once the nest is complete, the female lays an average of 2 to 3 whitish eggs. During the incubation period, the male assists the female, and after the chicks hatch, both take turns caring for them until they are ready to leave the nest. ▶️ Here on the Vida No Campo channel, you'll discover the most incredible bird songs, as well as interesting facts, behaviors, and fascinating characteristics of various species. ▶️ Discover the most surprising and enchanting side of nature through the sounds, stories, and beauty that birds offer us. ▶️ We hope every minute here is a light, pleasant experience, full of discoveries. 🔴 Subscribe to the channel so you don't miss future videos about birds that enchant with their sounds, colors, and stories. 🔔 Turn on the bell and receive notifications whenever a new video is published. 👍 Leave a like if you love the natural beauty of birds. 📝 Write in the comments your experiences with birds, sounds that have marked your life, or suggestions of species you would like to see here, and together we will spread the sound and beauty of birds around the world!
