BAPTISM BY ICE: Epiphany Ice Bathing in Georgia

Every year on January 19, people flock to the largest lake in Georgia to immerse themselves in the freezing water. Afterwards, they sit down to a communal feast. This is Natlisgheba on Paravani Lake, Georgia’s most extreme Orthodox ritual. A big thank-you to Mama Paisi for having us at this year’s event. Have you ever participated in a ritual like this?
