$1 Fried Duck - Street Food in Surabaya, Indonesia 🇮🇩

After checking in to my luxury hotel in Surabaya, I went out to explore the streets for some tasty local food. I was specifically looking for "Nasi Bebek Goreng" which is fried duck with rice. With the help of Google Maps I went exploring, and found a street cart with good reviews. At 20,000 rupiah ($1.30 USD) for a portion it was insanely good value for a big leg of duck, rice and tempeh goreng. For dessert I ate Pisang Ijo from the vendor working beside the Nasi Bebek cart. Pisang Ijo is a popular West Java dessert consisting of "green bananas" coated in coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. It has a sweet and creamy texture and a delicate coconut flavour. The bananas that they use are a specific type that are green even when ripe, and a big more starchy than regular bananas. As if dinner and dessert wasn't enough, I stopped by a Martabak stall on the way back to my hotel. Martabak is something like a thick savoury pancake.
