The Best State Park In The Country! | Custer State Park & Game Lodge Campground

The title of the BEST state park in the country is obviously very subjective. We have definitely not visited EVERY state park in the country...However, we have visited more than our fair share and Custer State Park in Custer, South Dakota is, in our opinion, the BEST state park in the country! It's been 5 long years since our last visit to Game Lodge Campground and Custer State Park. Thankfully, the park is still just as amazing and beautiful as it was back then! Our favorite campground in Custer State Park is Game Lodge Campground. The best part about Game Lodge Campground is its proximity to the famous Custer State Park Wildlife Loop Road. The Wildlife Loop Road winds through the park and provides fantastic views of the Black Hills...not to mention, a TON of wildlife! Bison are by far the most famous residents of Custer State Park, but you can also see Whitetail Deer, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, Elk, and Bighorn Sheep! Many of them wander the field just behind the campground and are visible throughout the day. Hiking is another great activity in Custer State Park. We decided to hike the Sylvan Lake Trail that loops around beautiful Sylvan Lake. The views are incredible and even the drive up to the hike is awe inspiring. If you haven't been to this breath taking area of South Dakota, you've got to put it on your bucket list. I can promise you that you'll walk away from your trip thinking WOW!
