This is the largest hydrotechnical project of its kind in Poland and one of the largest such projects in the Baltic Sea region. The new container terminal will significantly increase the transshipment capacity of the Port of Gdańsk. The construction of Terminal T3 is the result of close collaboration between Budimex, an international consortium, and DEME Dredging, commissioned by Baltic Hub. The project included the creation of an artificial island, deepening the seabed, the construction of a 717-meter-long and 17.5-meter-deep deepwater quay, and the creation of a 36-hectare container yard. Thanks to the new terminal, Baltic Hub will increase its transshipment capacity by another 1.5 million TEU per year, to 4.5 million TEU. "Terminal T3 is a strategic investment for the region and all of Central and Eastern Europe. As a leading general contractor in Poland, we are proud that Budimex played a key role in the implementation of this project, which is making Gdańsk one of the most important transshipment points in the Baltic Sea." This investment not only sets new standards in port infrastructure but also contributes to the development of the Polish economy," emphasizes Cezary Łysenko, Operations Director of Infrastructure, Hydraulics, and General Construction, Member of the Management Board, Budimex SA. The construction of the T3 Baltic Hub Terminal posed a significant engineering challenge for the contractors – the entire project was built on water, as an extension of the existing structures of the T1 and T2 terminals. Over 17,500 tons of steel, 160,000 m³ of concrete, and 4.3 million m³ of sand were used during the construction of the T3 Baltic Hub Terminal. Work was carried out 24/7, involving over 500 specialists, and with respect for the natural environment and the surrounding area. Modern noise reduction solutions and systems protecting marine mammals from the effects of hydraulic works were implemented during the construction phase. A total of seven modern STS cranes and 20 semi-automatic, remotely operated RMG cranes were ordered as part of the investment. The STS cranes arrived at the construction site by sea from China and were installed on the terminal's quay. Their heights range from 96 to 140 meters with the boom raised, and each crane weighs nearly 2,000 tons. Budimex remains committed to the further development of port, rail, and road infrastructure in Poland, implementing projects of strategic importance for logistics and freight transport in the region.
