15 Casks of Dwarven Ale | Fantasy Sea Shanty & Tavern Song
Behold my latest drinking sea shanty for all the cheerful moments in between questing! If you love Dungeons & Dragons, this one is for you! People always ask me where I find inspiration. Sometimes it's a grand adventure. Sometimes it's a dragon. And sometimes it's a merchant ship carrying fifteen casks of dwarven ale and a crew far too cheerful for their own good. By the time we reached Waterdeep, the voyage had survived storms, rough seas, questionable decisions, and an alarming shortage of self-control. Against all odds, the cargo was delivered... Well, one barrel of it was. The merchant wasn't pleased, the captain looked twenty years older, and the crew insisted the missing fourteen casks had been sacrificed in the name of morale. I wrote this song before the poor fellow could change his mind and ask for a refund. If you know the chorus, don't be shy. It's much better when everyone joins in! Lyrics: VERSE 1 We cast off from the harbor wall, With fifteen casks below, Bound for ports along the coast Where northern trade winds blow. The captain said, "The sea is harsh, And spirits must prevail, So when the sun has left the sky, We'll tap a cask of ale." CHORUS Fifteen casks of dwarven ale, Fifteen casks below! Raise a mug and toast the tide, And fourteen left to go! VERSE 2 Three days out the winds turned foul, And waves crashed o'er the bow, The cook approached the captain then And made a solemn vow. He said, "The men have worked like mules, Their backs are stiff and sore, A little ale will lift their hearts." The captain granted four. CHORUS Fifteen casks of dwarven ale, Fifteen casks below! Raise a mug and toast the tide, And ten left still to go! VERSE 3 The morning came both warm and calm, The sea as smooth as glass, Yet half the crew were slow to work And none were moving fast. The captain marched below the deck To see what mischief brewed, He found one lonely cask remained... And sixteen cheerful crew. CHORUS Fifteen casks of dwarven ale, Fifteen casks below! Raise a mug and toast the tide, And one left still to go! VERSE 4 We sailed at last into the port, The voyage safely through, The merchant stood upon the dock Expecting all his due. The captain sighed and shook his head And pointed at the crew, Who rolled the final barrel forth And cried, "WE SAVED THIS ONE FOR YOU!" FINAL CHORUS Fifteen casks of dwarven ale, Fifteen casks below! Raise a mug and toast the tide, And none are left to go! Hey! None are left to go! #fantasy #drinkingsong #dungeonsanddragons
