CVJ HIBIKI, a collab between CVJ Audio and Gotham Pro Audio. This one’s a bit more interesting than your usual badge-slap partnership. Gotham Pro Audio is a Chengdu-based outfit founded back in 2017 by a small team of three. From what I’ve gathered, the guy leading the charge is also involved as a product manager for Softears, so there’s already some serious tuning pedigree in the mix. Another partner comes from a headphone engineering background and has worked closely with Moondrop on a few designs and models, while the third is an industrial designer. So yeah, there’s some real experience behind it. The HIBIKI is one of two dongle DAC/amps CVJ is about to roll out, the other being the Lila. From a hardware standpoint, i think they’re identical from what i gathered they share the same internals, just a different look and theme depending on which one you go for. Under the hood, you’re getting an ESS ES9039Q2M DAC paired with dual ES9603Q op-amps, pushing up to 300mW of output. On paper, that’s more than enough juice for most IEMs and even some harder-to-drive sets, so I’m curious how it actually handles in real use.
