No Electricity, No Water Bills: A Mathematician’s Off-Grid Forest Lifestyle
Pradeep is a mathematician by profession but an ecologist and passionate birder by heart. Unlike many who walk the traditional farming path, Pradeep envisioned a land teeming with life—not for profit, but for coexistence. On his 10-acre land, Pradeep has created a living forest where vulnerable, endangered, and rare flora and fauna thrive naturally. His self-grown forest is now home to over 170 species of birds, including endemic and migratory species. Animals like the endangered slender loris, black-naped hare, antelope, and even leopards roam freely here, making his land a sanctuary for biodiversity. But what makes Pradeep truly exceptional is his simple, low-energy, self-sufficient lifestyle. His home, nestled within his forest, is fully solar-powered with just a 400W system. He lives completely off-grid with no dependency on the government’s electricity supply. His life is minimal, intentional, and centered on essential needs—there’s no television, no washing machine, and no unnecessary appliances. 💧 Water Independence: Pradeep has taken self-sufficiency a step further by harvesting over 1 lakh liters of rainwater through smart and cost-effective techniques. He built ferro-cement water storage tanks, which cost him just ₹4.5 per liter—significantly cheaper than conventional water tanks. These tanks come with an in-built filtering system to ensure clean water for all household purposes—from drinking and cooking to bathing. To draw water, he uses small AC pumps powered by solar energy, making his entire water system fully independent. Pradeep's family uses no external water connections and no municipal supply. His entire setup is powered by nature. 🏡 In This Episode: This first episode takes you through Pradeep’s solar-powered home and his rainwater harvesting system. You’ll see how a mathematician chose to live in harmony with nature, adopting a peaceful, sustainable, and highly efficient lifestyle. 🌳 What’s Coming Next: In upcoming episodes, Pradeep will walk us through his vast knowledge of forestry, the species he carefully selected, and how his rain-fed forest supports the rich biodiversity now thriving there. His vision, dedication, and deep ecological understanding are an inspiration for anyone looking to live closer to nature. 👨👩👧👦 His family—his wife, two children, and his mother—have embraced this lifestyle wholeheartedly, proving that sustainable, peaceful living is not only possible but deeply fulfilling.
