BBC Radio 4 last transmission on long wave
BBC Radio 4 on 198 kHz long wave was switched off for good on the 27th June 2026 at 1am (BST). This is a recording of parts of the last ever transmission on LW as received on a vintage LW radio receiver. I've twiddled the tuning dial in places to show you're listening to the actual radio. This old radio receives MW, LW and SW. I think it's a better design than my Hacker Autocrat as the Hacker picked up lots of interference so I didn't use it in this video! Most of the Radio 4 transmission during the last hour was miserable news so I cut it all out. There's a well made segment about the early days of the LW transmissions which I've included. The very last item was the shipping forecast. I've cut most of that out as it's still broadcast on FM although I did record it all. 0:49 Mention of shutdown 1:00 History of LW 3:22 Shipping forecast (part of) Finally there's the shutdown message which will presumably be repeated until the transmitters are actually switched off.
