ARCHETYPES AND NEURAL CODES: A CONVERSATION BETWEEN ROBERT PRINZ AND ERIK GOODWYN

Recorded during the 12th International Conference in Code Biology, held in Guimarães, Portugal (2–6 June 2026), this conversation explores one of the most fascinating questions at the intersection of Code Biology, neuroscience, and Analytical Psychology: Can the concept of the archetype be understood in light of biological and neural codes? Drawing on their complementary expertise, Robert Prinz, code biologist, and Erik Goodwyn, psychiatrist and Jungian analyst, discuss the biological foundations of archetypal organization, neural coding, inheritance, symbolic processes, and the relationship between mind and life. The conversation was held at the invitation of João Carlos Major, Conference Chair of the 12th International Conference in Code Biology, as part of the conference’s commitment to fostering dialogue between Code Biology and other scientific disciplines.
