It is driven by the bursting of large gas bubbles within the magma conduit, which violently ejects glowing clots of pasty lava, ash, and volcanic bombs into the air above the crater. While these bursts are spectacular, they also signal highly pressurized degassing and active magma ascension within the volcano, contributing to the continuous lava effusion and subsequent collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) on the lower slopes. ⚠️ URGENT SAFETY WARNING: STRICTLY NO ENTRY TO 6-KM PDZ Even when activity appears contained to the summit crater, Mayon Volcano remains highly unpredictable. PDC Risk: Sudden collapses of the crater rim or the active lava flow fronts can generate lethal, fast-moving pyroclastic density currents that cannot be outrun.
