Narrowboat Engine Woes – Tracking Down the Beta Marine JD3 Fuel Problem If you’ve been following my recent videos, you’ll know my narrowboat the Grey Wagtail has been suffering from some engine issues — low oil pressure, uneven revs, and now a complete refusal to start! In this video, I take a closer look at the Beta Marine JD3 engine, describe the strange symptoms I’ve been seeing, and share the process of narrowing down the possible causes. Could it be the fuel stop solenoid, a failing washer, or something else entirely? After some testing — checking breather tubes, fuel filters, and injectors — we may have finally discovered the culprit. But getting a replacement part isn’t proving easy… Watch along as I talk through the engine setup, explain how the diesel fuel solenoid works, and explore how this tiny component might be responsible for keeping the JD3 from firing up.
