SANDY COMES IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL & CLAIMS FISH 💪DISCOVERS CAM CABLES! REAR END RUB😂 FOBBV 7.10.26

Sandy & Luna woke up in the basement and flew off to Lookout Snag. Shadow comes to the nest early with the first fish of the day and no one is home. Shadow waits and looks around for Sandy and Luna and decides to eat some fish. Sandy flies in to the basement and is squeeing loudly at Shadow! Sandy will fly off the basement branch and circle around the nest a couple of time before landing! She comes in like a wrecking ball and her landing was loud! Shadow gets out of the way - goes to front porch. Sandy is Jackie's daughter and he knows the routine! Sandy eats her fish on the nest - it is so much easier eating on a solid nest rather than on a branch where the fish can be dropped! Sandy then explores the cam cables and wires for a few minutes and then does a Rear End Rub! What is a Rear End Rub? It is thought that birds do this due to over stimulation or frustration. Eagles have a preening gland (uropygial gland) located at the base of their tail. This gland produces a special oil onto their feathers to keep them waterproof & healthy. This action has been observed in juvenile eagles but the reason is unknown. I can tell you with my experience watching SWFL eagles we see this pretty often with the eaglets rubbing their bottoms on the ground, in the sand at the pond or in the nest -simulating taking a bath.
