Carla García arremete contra "JP" en medio de la incertidumbre electoral

Political tensions continue to rise following the presidential runoff election as the official count by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) keeps the final result between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez in suspense. In this context, Carla García commented on the electoral situation, questioned members of the Together for Peru coalition, and defended the position taken by APRA party leaders and other political figures during the campaign. García maintained that the support of various APRA members for Keiko Fujimori's candidacy was not a party decision, but rather an individual stance in defense of democracy. “APRA did not decide to support Keiko Fujimori. The political commission never issued a statement; instead, individual party members exercised their conscience and voted according to what we were taught, which is to put a stop to communism and, above all, to defend democracy against any kind of totalitarianism,” she stated. During the interview, he also referred to former prosecutor José Domingo Pérez, whom he harshly criticized for his actions in the legal proceedings related to former president Alan García. “I still think what I thought eight years ago: that he is a political hitman who has used our justice system to eliminate rivals of communism,” he declared. He also questioned Pérez's participation in political activities after leaving the Public Prosecutor's Office and highlighted the recent decision by the National Board of Justice regarding his situation. HE ASKS TO WAIT FOR OFFICIAL RESULTS Regarding the close election count, García considered it premature to speak of a definitive winner and emphasized that only the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has the authority to proclaim results. “There's no way to declare victory in a country where the outcome is decided by 20,000 or 40,000 votes. The only entity that determines the electoral victory is the ONPE,” he stated. He also warned that the narrow margin between the two candidates reflects a deep political polarization in the country. The former president's daughter also questioned the statements made by leaders of Juntos por el Perú (Together for Peru) who announced mobilizations and protests while the vote counting process was still underway. “They are doing exactly the same thing they criticized. Before, they said that the only thing that mattered was the ONPE (National Office of Electoral Processes), and now the ONPE doesn't matter anymore. They're simply bitter,” she stated, referring to the criticisms made. Finally, García maintained that the next president will have to govern a deeply fragmented country. “Peru is split right down the middle. So, it's not so easy to govern a country like this,” she expressed.
